What is an anti-reflective (AR) coating?

It is a coating applied to the surface of the lens to reduce the glare from reflections. It helps reduced eye fatigue and strain while also improving the aesthetics of the lens.

Do I absolutely need it?

Nope. Your prescription will work perfectly without an anti-glare coating.

Should I get an anti-reflective (AR) coating?

If your budget allows for the modest increase in price, then yes, absolutely.

Anti-reflective coatings are “extras”, but they’re the first extra you should consider. They drastically reduce the annoying glare on your lenses and they also help block harmful UV light while repelling dust, dirt and oils.
